Magyar, Csaba

Csaba Magyar holds a degree in physics and earned his PhD at the Doctoral School of Physics at Eötvös Loránd University (ELTE). Since graduation, he has worked at the Institute of Enzymology of the former Hungarian Academy of Sciences (MTA SZBK) and its successor institutions. He is currently a senior research fellow at the HUN-REN Institute of Molecular Life Sciences.
During his university studies, he conducted quantum chemical research on small organic molecules and examined the structural stability of proteins in his thesis. His primary research interests include protein structure modeling and analysis. Over the past two decades, he has worked on structure-based drug design as well as disordered and transmembrane proteins. He frequently performs molecular dynamics simulations and analyzes protein structures using custom-written software developed in C and Python. In addition to traditional homology modeling tools, he routinely uses Alphafold 2 and 3.
He serves as the data steward of the HUN-REN Research Centre for Natural Sciences (TTK). His short-term goal is to develop and make accessible a shared institutional data storage solution at TTK.
“The biggest challenge is drafting a research data management policy tailored to the research centre, especially when it comes to interpreting legal language. At the same time, being a data steward gives me a broader perspective on how the Research Centre operates as a whole.”
