HUN-REN Data Repository Platform

FAQ

What is a data repository?

Data repositories are database infrastructures that enable the long-term storage, searchability and delivery of research data.

What is considered research data?

Any factual data generated during scientific research that is generally accepted by the scientific community and proves the validity of the research results. Research data cover a wide range of information and can be produced in many different ways.

Research data examples:

  • database content (video, audio, text, images)
  • application operational data (content of log files, application run results, simulation results)
  • audio/video material, photos, movies, slides, sound recordings
  • documents (in text or spreadsheet format)
  • protein or genetic sequences
  • questionnaires, transcripts, codebooks
  • survey responses, test results
  • digital objects acquired and/or produced during the research process
  • laboratory notes, field exercise logs, records
  • models, algorithms, scripts
  • methods and workflows
  • standard operating procedures and protocols
  • spectra, spectral analyses, etc

What are the FAIR principles?

The essence of FAIR (Findable, Accessible, Interoperable, Reusable) data management is that research data is easy to find and access, but also interoperable, i.e. it ensures interoperability between different platforms and can ultimately be reused to support further research.

FAIR is a set of guiding principles that, when followed, ensure that research data meets the criteria detailed above.

One of the key objectives of the HUN-REN ARP project is to promote a FAIR data management culture within the HUN-REN institutional network. In accordance with this the new repository infrastructure service developed under the project will be fully compliant with the FAIR guidelines.

When will I be able to use the new data repository service?

The renewed data repository service will be available to users from the beginning of March 2024.
