Friderika Horváth is a senior research fellow at the ELTE RCH Institute of Archaeology and has served as Head of the Department of Archaeological Heritage and Methodology since 2021. Her work focuses on coordinating the Archaeological Archives and developing institutional practices for the long-term preservation, accessibility, and reuse of archaeological research data. In this capacity, she develops guidelines, data models, and digital workflows for research data management.

She has participated in the ARP Ambassador Programme since 2023, supporting the preparation and deposit of archaeological and interdisciplinary research datasets in research repositories. In 2023, she contributed to the organisation and preparation of research documentation from the archaeological sites of Almásfüzitő-Foktorok and Zalavár-Vársziget, and in 2024 she worked on the repository deposit of the complex research dataset from the Late Copper Age cemetery of Pilismarót-Basaharc.

As part of the 2026 ARP Ambassador Programme, she is involved in preparing the research data generated by the interdisciplinary project “Centuries of Polychrome Metalwork in the Carpathian Basin: Craft, Organisation and Society from the Hunnic to the Avar Period”, supported by a János Bolyai Research Scholarship, for deposit in a repository. Managing this heterogeneous dataset contributes to the further development of methodological and technical approaches to the standardised description, long-term preservation, and publication of complex archaeological data.

Her individual project focuses on developing an institutional framework for managing archaeological research data. She is working on an integrated data model and accompanying technical documentation that brings together the requirements of long-term archiving, research repositories, and digital systems for knowledge representation, while facilitating standards-based interoperability between the Institute’s digital services and national and international research infrastructures and databases.

A key part of her work is the institutional implementation of FAIR principles and responsible research data management, together with the dissemination of the associated knowledge and methods within the research community. She aims to help embed appropriate data documentation, preservation, citation, and reuse into everyday research practice.
