Bence Juhász pursued his university studies abroad before returning to Hungary to continue his doctoral research in political science at Eötvös Loránd University (ELTE). During his studies in Texas, he encountered the books Surveillance Capitalism and The Attention Economy, which sparked his interest in research on data management, data protection, and AI regulation. He wrote both his master’s and PhD theses on these topics. In his publications, he compared the legal frameworks created to protect privacy in the EU and the US. Before becoming the data steward at ICSC (SZTAKI), he participated in several EU Horizon projects, where his responsibilities included ensuring legal and ethical compliance.

As a data steward, he primarily supports researchers and research groups at ICSC, for example by assisting in launching research projects and proposals. He is also responsible for ensuring legal and ethical compliance throughout the course of projects. Beyond that, he helps with the proper storage of research data and facilitates the flow of information between the HUN-REN Centre and ICSC.

“My role is highly complex. I must consider numerous regulatory domains and technological solutions and apply them to a wide range of research projects—from computer simulations to the analysis of sensitive health data.”
