Szabó, Endre

Endre Szabó has been a staff member of the MTA/HUN-REN KRTK (CERS) Data Bank since 2013. Over the course of his work, he has been involved in building databases, data cleaning, managing the development of server infrastructure, and operating and improving the KRTK Data Bank’s IT infrastructure. His responsibilities have included preparing infrastructure and other project proposals, as well as negotiating data access agreements with partners. He also serves on several institutional committees and boards.
Between 2011 and 2012, he worked as an external data processor for the Hungarian Demographic Research Institute (Hungarian Central Statistical Office, KSH). From 2011 to 2025, he was an external data processor for the Hungarian Literary Authors’ Collecting Society (MISZJE). Between 2005 and 2011, he worked in data collection for TÁRKI Inc. These roles have provided him with extensive experience in handling (research) data, which supports his work as a data steward at KRTK.
As a data steward, his responsibilities include supporting the accumulation of data assets, preparing the data from the KRTK Data Bank for repository integration, reviewing data access policies, and making the data assets known and, where possible, accessible to a wide range of users in accordance with bilateral agreements with data owners. His work places special emphasis on identifying and protecting sensitive data, ensuring compliance with data management regulations, and tracking, auditing, and supporting data usage.
“As a data steward, I must strike a balance between the consistent enforcement of data management and access regulations and the supportive accommodation of researchers’ data access needs. Together with my colleagues at the Data Bank, I aim to establish and develop a centralized data management system that institutionalizes best practices proven effective elsewhere.”
