Available in the long term? – Data repositories and research data: sustainability, security, and innovation
HUN-REN Data Repository Platform (HUN-REN ARP) will hold its annual conference on October 8, 2026. We welcome submissions from all interested parties.
Aim of the Conference:
There is a fundamental consensus in both the national and international research environments that research data is a valuable asset. In line with the latest requirements, this value must be preserved, stored securely in the long term, and, whenever possible, made accessible. Achieving these goals requires significant effort and investment from researchers, institutions, infrastructures, and experts alike.
Data repositories, which have become strategically important, and professional data stewards play an indispensable role in this process. Modern repositories ensure the secure, long-term preservation of scientific results and the underlying research data, while providing opportunities for international visibility and accessibility. As relatively new players in the research sphere, data stewards act as key contributors supporting the practical implementation of the FAIR data principles and assisting researchers in the proper management of their research data. The sustainable operation of research infrastructures thus requires significant institutional, technological, and human expertise.
As a defining actor in the Hungarian research ecosystem, the HUN-REN ARP project plays a key role in establishing the above at the institutional level by operating the ARP Data Repository and collaborating with the HUN-REN Data Steward Network. Furthermore, it considers it fundamental to support cooperation among national data repositories and among data stewards, to provide appropriate platforms for these collaborations, and to facilitate integration into the international research ecosystem.
The primary aim of the conference is to provide a forum to discuss the long-term, secure sustainability of data repositories and research data, and to present the latest scientific challenges, trends, technological opportunities, and developments. It also aims to facilitate networking, community building, and knowledge sharing among funders, operators, researchers, data stewards, and research infrastructure developers.
Applications to present at the conference can be made by submitting an abstract.
We particularly welcome presentations on the following topics:
- Long-term sustainability and security of data repositories
- Modern research data management and data steward support
- The latest trends, artificial intelligence, and research data
- Interoperability, metadata, and technological solutions
- Support for data reuse and interdisciplinary research
- Collaborations and community building in research data management
- International connections, the EOSC ecosystem
Presentations featuring situation analyses, problem statements, case studies, best practices, methodological approaches, infrastructure development experiences, or strategic analyses are also welcome.
