The data stewards of the HUN-REN Data Steward Network - closely linked to the Data Repository Platform - along with the mentors and supporting IT specialists coordinating the network, hold off-site events at each other’s institutes every summer. This year, the Piszkéstető Observatory of the Konkoly Thege Miklós Astronomical Institute at the HUN-REN Research Center for Astronomy and Earth Sciences hosted this optional program.
The goal of the two-day event was to allow network members to meet in a more informal setting, learn about each other’s institutions and work, exchange experiences, and strengthen professional and community ties.
During the program, participants gained insight into the work of astronomers. In a presentation by Ádám Sódor, data steward at the CSFK, they learned about the history and operations of the observatory, received an overview of the research being conducted at the institute, and were introduced to the telescopes at Piszkéstető and their use for research purposes. As part of the program, attendees also viewed meteorite samples, and the evening concluded with stargazing through telescopes.
The group barbecue and the hike the following day provided a relaxed setting for conversation and the exchange of experiences, further strengthening the professional and social ties within the Data Steward Network.
