As reported in an article published in January 2026 on the website of the University of Szeged, the university has launched its own institutional data repository. The service provided by the SZTE Klebelsberg Library and Archives aims to provide a place for the storage and sharing of research data measured, generated, and used in university-related research projects, to support maximum visibility, and to facilitate machine processing.
Researchers at the University of Szeged, their co-authors, and collaborating research groups have the right to store research datasets in the SZTE Data Repository, while searching, downloading, and reusing data is available to anyone interested, depending on the settings of the given dataset. The multidisciplinary data repository is part of a complex research data management service, the "scientific digital footprint" of the data assets produced at the university.
The infrastructure is based on Invenio, and the system essentially uses the Invenio metadata set. However, in order to meet the needs that arose at the university, it was necessary to supplement the basic metadata schema with science-specific sets, for which the development team used the ARP Schema Registry service. In addition to the new schemas already available, the interface also allows the integration of further schemas, for which the data repository staff developed a Python module called ARP Converter. With the help of this module, new unique metadata schemas created in the ARP Schema Registry can be easily and largely automatically integrated into the system.
More information about the creation of the data repository, the needs to be served, the significance of the service, the difficulties and the solutions can be found in the interview with Dr. Gyula Nagy (Director General, SZTE Klebelsberg Library and Archives) and Szabolcs Hoczopán (Head of the E-Services, SZTE Klebelsberg Library and Archives), available on the university's website. Further details can be found in Zoltán Kanász-Nagy (Hungary – Monguz Ltd. Szeged) "Implementation of InvenioRDM base data repository at the University of Szeged" and Szabolcs Hoczopán's "Our first experiences with our Invenio-based institutional data repository at the University of Szeged" presentations at the 2025 ARP conference.
Congratulations to the staff of the University of Szeged!
