In the Adatrepozitórium Platform (ARP) project, we built a service environment based on Dataverse, the research data repository software of Harvard. At the core of this environment is a Hungarian-localized version of Dataverse extended with our own developments, complemented by additional services including a schema registry, an RO-Crate editor, and a shared search service.

Hunverse is the open-source edition of this extended Dataverse software, created for the Hungarian research community.

It is functionally identical to the instance running within ARP, but it now allows any researcher or institution to install and use the software while receiving built-in integration with ARP services by default. This means that all Hunverse users can work with schemas stored in the same schema registry and share those schemas with one another. As in ARP, they can also describe their data in greater detail using RO-Crate, including metadata at the individual file level. In addition, datasets created in a given Hunverse installation automatically become searchable through the ARP Shared Search, which serves as a federated discovery service for Hungarian research data.

Hunverse can be customized by each institution both in terms of appearance and functionality, using the customization options provided by Dataverse itself. For example, institutions can configure their own authentication system, persistent identifier service, or install other optional extensions and convenience features as needed.

The ARP project continuously keeps Hunverse up to date with the latest Dataverse releases.
