The series of the informal Data Steward Meetings organized jointly by the ELTE National Laboratory for Digital Heritage (ELTE DH-LAB), the HUN-REN Data Repository Platform (HUN-REN ARP), and Pro-M Zrt. continues in the fall. The sixth meeting in the series took place on September 11 at the Hungarian Central Statistical Office (HCSO) with more than 30 participants.
At the event, Balázs Horváth, acting head of department and research scientist at the Research Support and Statistical History Department of the HCSO, Dávid Derda, former employee of the HCSO and currently working at the National Technicalinformation Centre and Library of the Budapest University of Technology and Economics, and Edina Mátyás-Bodovics, head of the Complex Services Department of the HCSO.
Participants heard about the history of the HCSO, its past full of grand plans and major setbacks, and its rapidly digitizing present, as well as about HCSO projects, data and opportunities available on the HCSO website, and the operation of the Research Room. The audience also learned in detail about the exciting and ambitious Access to Memory (AtoM) project. After the presentations, those interested were allowed to enter the mysterious, specially guarded Research Room. In the room data stewards were given a taste of its services, and the more courageous among them could even practice on real research data owned by the HCSO. The event ended with a lunch and informal conversation among the most determined participants.

The aim of the Data Steward Meeting series is to provide an opportunity for Hungarian data stewards to meet informally, talk, get to know each other, and discuss the latest news, events, trends, and issues in the field.
The event is supported by Skills4EOSC and is open to anyone interested. The next event is expected to take place in November 2025. For the exact date and location, please contact @email. The organizers look forward to seeing all interested data stewards at future events!
